چکیده
Example For example, let X 2 1, ..., Xn be a random sample from distribution N(μ, σ ) with σ known and μ ∈ M. Suppose our hypothesis is that μ ∈ M1 for some M1 ⊂ M, i.e. M1 is some subset of M. It is called the null hypothesis. It is denoted as H0 : μ ∈ M1. Then the alternative hypothesis is that μ ∈/ M1, i.e. μ ∈ M\M1. It is denoted as Ha : μ ∈/ M\M1. For example, if M1 = μ0 and M = {μ : μ ≥ μ0}, then H0 : μ = μ0 and Ha : μ > μ0. Or, as another example, ifM1 = μ0 andM = {μ : μ ∈ R}, then H0 : μ = μ0 and Ha : μ = μ0. If a hypothesis includes only one parameter value, it is called simple. Otherwise, the hypothesis is called complex. In the examples above, the null hypothesis was simple while the alternative was complex. In principle, we can also allow for complex null hypotheses. For example, ifM1 = μ1∪μ2 andM = {μ : μ ∈ R}, then H0 : μ = μ1 orμ = μ2 and Ha : μ = μ1 andμ = μ2. It is customary to mention both the null and the alternative hypotheses since the full parameter space M is often unspeci ed.

Collaborative Paper-based Annotation of Lecture Slides
In a study of notetaking in university courses, we found that the large majority of students prefer paper to computer-based media like Tablet PCs for taking notes and making annotations. Based on this finding, we developed CoScribe, a concept and system which supports students in making collaborative handwritten annotations on printed lecture slides. It includes mechanisms for the paper-based s...
متن کاملDynamic language model adaptation using presentation slides for lecture speech recognition
We propose a dynamic language model adaptation method that uses the temporal information from lecture slides for lecture speech recognition. The proposed method consists of two steps. First, the language model is adapted with the text information extracted from all the slides of a given lecture. Next, the text information of a given slide is extracted based on temporal information and used for ...
متن کاملMultiscript - an online student-teacher collaboration platform for classroom lectures
Online collaboration on lecture contents has gained much popularity, over the few decades, due to its potential to enhance the learning experience. We propose a novel idea of an online collaboration platform, called Multiscript (MS), for the students and the teacher, on classroom lectures. MS combines two online learning approaches into a single collaboration platform. One approach, called outs...
متن کاملVector graphics for web lectures: experiences with Adobe Flash 9 and SVG
Vector graphics are an ideal content format for slide based lecture recordings. File sizes can be kept small and graphics can be displayed in superior quality. Information about text and slide objects is stored symbolically which allows texts to be searched and objects on slides to be used interactively, e.g. for navigation purposes. The use of vector graphics for web lectures is, however, a tr...
متن کاملAutomatic Explanation Spot Estimation Method Targeted at Text and Figures in Lecture Slides
Because of the spread of the Internet in recent years, e-learning, which is a form of learning through the Internet, has been used in school education. Many lecture videos delivered at The Open University of Japan show lecturers and lecture slides alternately. In such video style, it is hard to understand where on the slide the lecturer is explaining. In this paper, we examined methods to autom...
